Dear Friends & Family,

Guess what - I'm running in the Boston Marathon!! It's hard to believe that less than two years ago, I was pregnant, 70 pounds overweight, smoking over a pack a day and trying to figure out how I was going to get through two hurricanes and raise 3 babies by myself! But thanks to faith, family, and friends, I not only survived...I thrived! In addition to finishing my first Marathon last April in Nashville, I married Lonnie Lahman - an incredible and loving husband and father who is in the process of adopting Bonnie, Joey, and Jackie. God is so very good!

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, I recently joined a team of runners to raise money for the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center in Hopkinton, MA by running the world reknown Boston Marathon on April 17, 2006.

The Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center is a non-profit organization that provides day care, after school care, and weekend respite services to children and adults with severe disabilities. As the founder explained it, "If you have a child with severe disabilities, there are no breaks". In this population, there is an 87% divorce rate because the care for children with severe disabilities is so incredibly intense.

As a parent of 4 children (three of them under the age of 5), I know how hard it is to get a break. Sometimes it takes an act of God to have a date night with my sexy husband (you can tell I'm a newlywed :) or get a couple hours in an afternoon to run errands or just to plain run!! Imagine how difficult it would be if you were the parent of a special needs child. You could not turn to the neighborhood sitter or even your own family members because they are not qualified or trained to care for a medically fragile child. That's why the Respite Center has become such a blessing to so many families...they provide a loving environment for people with disabilities to socialize and play, while providing their families with a much needed break.

100% of your tax-deductable donation will provide respite scholarships for families who cannot afford care. There are a couple of ways you can donate:

1. Make a check out to "The Respite Center" and mail it to me at 1228 Oakwater Drive, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411
2. Go to the Center's donation page at www.hopkintonrespite.com/donations.htm. If you are using this option, make sure you put "Patty Lahman" in the "payment for" dialog box so it gets credited to my fundraising efforts. Donations are processed through PayPal.
3. Use the secure credit card donation option on this page where it says "Make a Contribution". This is the most user friendly option, but there is a small service charge that gets taken out of the donation.

There is no donation too small...or too big :) Please take a moment to read through the stories on the newsletter that I sent you either through the mail or email as well as the website www.hopkintonrespite.com (The "home page" on the menu bar at the top of this page will also take you there). I know you will be inspired by these stories as I was. Thanks so much for your support!

Please send this webpage or email to your friends and family too. You can also create your own fundraising pages through this web site to raise money on my behalf for the Center. Simply click on "become a fundraiser" at the top of this page and follow the instructions. You may also just send this to your contacts by using the "invite others to contribute" option.

Thanks again!!
