| Sally's Milestone Marathon for Pancreatic Cancer Research |

Hi,
My name is Sally Simpson, and I’m inviting you to help me celebrate my milestone birthday, my 50th birthday to be exact. About a year ago, I was encouraged to make a list of everything I'd like to do if time, money and talent were not an issue. One of my goals has always been to run a marathon, but I thought I could never run that far! However, that simple exercise in "dreaming" coupled with my impending "milestone birthday" led me to seriously investigate the possibility of finally running my marathon.
After researching the possibility, and resolving to run a marathon, I thought it would be great to "run with a purpose". Like most people, cancer has touched my family, pancreatic cancer to be specific. Several years ago, my father-in-law passed away within 3 months of his diagnosis. That was our family’s introduction to this swift and deadly disease. In the intervening years, pancreatic cancer has touched the lives of several friends and co-workers. I found my “purpose”.
That is why I am a member of the Pancreatica Running Team and will be running the Sarasota, FL Marathon on 2/15/09...all 26.2 miles of it. Funds raised by members of the PRT support the Lorenzen Cancer Foundation which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness, increase education, promote research, and ultimately a cure. Their website, www.pancreatica.org, contains a wealth of information about this aggressive cancer and its treatments.
So as we’re celebrating my milestone, I am asking that, in lieu of birthday gifts, you would consider making a donation to the Lorenzen Cancer Foundation for pancreatic cancer research. Please partner with me so that together we can wipe out this cancer and help many others celebrate their milestone birthdays. Thanks, and I’ll see you at the finish line! |
