Outdoor Outreach empowers at-risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives through comprehensive outdoor programming. Outdoor Outreach programs support underserved youth in San Diego County who are at risk for school dropout, substance abuse, violence and unintended pregnancy. We are the only agency in San Diego and one of just a few in the country to utilize outdoor physical experiences to provide youth with the support, relationships, resources and opportunities they need to become successful adults.
Since its founding in 1999, Outdoor Outreach has taken more than 4,500 youth on over 1,300 outings, including rock climbing, snowboarding, surfing, snorkeling, mountain biking and backpacking. In 2009, we expect to serve 700 youth through 275 outings. Due to the generous support of the donors in our community, all Outdoor Outreach trips are provided at no cost to the youth.
The Joshua Tree Experience annual fundraiser is an opportunity for us to reach out to the community for their generous support and to encourage advocacy about the valuable work that Outdoor Outreach does in the community. Last year, the Joshua Tree Experience raised over $35,000 and our goal is to raise $75,000 this year! Please help us reach this goal to continue the impactful programs we provide.
Each fundraising individual can make a valuable impact in the following ways: $500 supports 15 youth at a surf camp; $1,000 supports one youth in an Adventure Club for an entire year; $3,500 supports 15 youth on a week-long backpacking trip in Yosemite; $5,000 supports one youth in our Leadership Program for an entire year.
