| Founded in 1994, Operation Jump Start (OJS) has been equipping disadvantaged Long Beach youth with the skills and vision necessary to graduate from high school and go on to higher education in order to realize their potential through a college education. OJS provides individualized mentoring, educational case-management, targeted enrichment programs, including college tours and cultural activities, and other support services to students beginning in eighth grade and continuing through high school graduation, an amazing five-year period of time.
Ultimately, the most important consideration of Operation Jump Start’s work does not lie in the number of programs, but on its effectiveness. For OJS graduates: 100% receive their high school diploma, 97% go on to college, and 85% go on to a four-year college directly.
