| As most of you might know, I was first touched by cancer when my sister, Mary was diagnosed. Her cancer actually started in her fallopian tubes then spread to the ovaries. I remember the doctor saying she only had a 15% chance of beating it. I was so mad, who was this doctor to tell us my sister's chances. He didn't know her or our family. I know now that I was very naive and the doctor's stats were more than accurate about the survival rate of ovarian cancer. Despite the odds, my sister has been healthy for 7 years now, but the odds were stacked against her and every woman who fights this disease.
I know this now because two of my closest friends both lost their mothers to ovarian cancer in 2006. I was lucky enough to spend a couple of vacations with Linda Copeland and see first hand what a wonderful best friend she was to her daughter. Marilyn Stephenson was like a second mother to me during high school and was such a great supporter of all three of her daughters. Both of these women were wonderful friends, wives, mothers and grandmothers who were taken from their families too early.
At the end of September, I will be doing a triathlon in honor of these great women. So, I have committed to raising at least $500 to help with awareness and research. I strongly believe we can find a cure. Since we are not scientists, the best way we can help is with our donations. The more money raised the more research that can be done. I'm asking with all my heart to please donate any amount you can spare and to please pass this along to as many people as you can. No donation is too small.
