|I am about to embark on a fantastic journey and I need your help! I will run/walk the 13.1-mile race at the Las Vegas Rock & Roll Half Marathon on December 2, 2012, and raise funds and awareness for research leading to improved treatment options and a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. |
It is estimated that as many as 1.4 million Americans have IBD; however, many more suffer in silence due to potential embarrassment and alienation. Crohn's disease may occur in people of all ages, but it is primarily a disease of adolescents and young adults, affecting mainly those between 15 and 35. On average, people are diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in their mid-30s, although the disease can occur at any age.
I run because of my sister. Becky is a daughter, sister, wife, mother, a friend and has Crohn’s disease. After her daughter Alice was born (Sept 2009) she started to have some stomach issues. Test after test and the doctors could not find anything yet. My sister couldn’t keep weight on because a lot of what she ate wasn’t absorbing into her. After losing too much weight and looking very thin she had a colonoscopy and was found to have full blown Crohn’s this was June of 2010. Soon she was started on a steroid and slowing gain some weight back and was starting to look healthy. After a year on the steroids she got the clear to have another little one and in June 2012 Willa was born. If it wasn’t because of the research of the CCFA my sister wouldn’t have the meds she needs to survive.
Together, we can make a difference! As a member of Team Challenge, I have a coach, a training program, and teammates to support me. I have committed to a tough training schedule, and I’ve committed to raise $3,700 in donations to The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. I am motivated! I am committed!! I will do it!!!
A minimum of 83 cents per dollar raised by CCFA goes directly to research and patient support, and your contribution is 100% tax deductible. If your company matches charitable contributions, please include matching forms with your donation. Of course, your good wishes and positive vibes to sustain me in my training and as I cross the finish line will also be graciously accepted.
