| Each year I get together fellow winos and runners as we train for a Fall Marathon while we raise funds for a children's charity! In 2011 we'll be running "The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America®" The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon on October 2nd. The determined charity who will benefit from our grueling training and 26.2 mile trek from Minneapolis to St Paul will be The Children's Tumor Foundation!
*****The 26.2 mile course begins near the HHH Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis, and finishes at the State Capitol in Saint Paul. The course is flat to rolling, mostly asphalt and very scenic with mile after mile of parkways, lakes, rivers and tree-lined boulevards. Over 250,000 spectators make the marathon a treat to experience!
*****As a team we meet for training runs, preparation races (5K, 10K, 10 Miler, 1/2 Marathon) and on race day as we enjoy the cameraderie along the course! Each of our runners has made a commitment to raising a minimum of $1,026.20 for The Children's Tumor Foundation by November 2nd, 2011!
*****The Children's Tumor Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) medical foundation, dedicated to improving the health and well being of individuals and families affected by the neurofibromatoses (NF).
What is NF? Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects one in 3,000 births. It can cause tumors to grow on nerves anywhere in the body, including the brain and spinal cord. NF can lead to blindness, deafness, chronic pain, disfigurement, learning disabilities, bone defects or abnormalities, cardiovascular problems, cancer and a wide range of other complications.
