| We are back, and asking ourselves "is it worth it".
Is it worth training through every kind of weather, scheduling time to run between doctor visitis and soccer games, to run besides thousands through the beautiful city streets. The funny thing is, this question need not be asked. It is written across our faces, in the excitement in our voice, the joyful tears in our eyes as we run to better the life of another.
We run for both love and money. We don't wear lab coats, but when we put on our NF singlet and running shoes, we are helping by raising money for research because you never know which dollar will find a cure.
The finish line for us is always bittersweet. Our sore muscles and blisters will soon fade, but Carly still battles brain tumors and her future with NF is uncertain.
Last year Rob and I did 18 miles of the 26 mile marathon. Matthew Leibowitz, our friend and NF Hero, inspired us all as he crossed the finish line of the Rock N Roll Marathon last June. I promised him if he came back this year, I would do the full marathon...and he immediately took me up on the offer and said he would not only return to but he would dedicate his miles to Carly and another 5 year old NF Hero, Destanie.
We wont stop until a cure is found, and to quote Matthew, we will "Never raise the white flag of surrender".
