I am inspired to run by my cousins, Andy and Amy, who each year sponsor a Team NF at the Lincoln Marathon, the Blazing Schafers. Every year they invite me to run with them, but every year I am unable to get to Nebraska on the required weekend. So this year, alone at the starting line but not in spirit, I will blaze my way through 26.2 miles and the five boroughs of New York City!
Andy and Amy’s son, Johnathan, was diagnosed with NF when he was 4 years old and has been living with the condition his entire life. He has an enduring tumor on his brainstem for which he has undergone four surgeries, more than 45 rounds of chemotherapy, countless MRIs, and takes four daily medications, three extra medicines for sporadic nerve pain, and five (5!) medicines on chemo days. He has seven doctors that he sees regularly plus travels to St. Louis to meet with a group of NF specialists. Despite all this, he manages to get good grades in the 7th grade, keep active in Boy Scouts, cheer for the Huskers, and is an outstanding big brother to his sisters, Jessica and Grace, and his brother, Jake.
CTF supports Johnathan and his family by funding research, providing patient support, and educating the world about NF. I am proud to run for CTF and my family. Please consider sponsoring my run for this very worthy organization.
Due to the spectacular support I have received so far, I have increased my goal to $15,001! This will be the largest amount raised for CTF at the NYC Marathon in over two years.
Thank you very much,
