Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Hello. My name is Vincent Squillace and in November, I will be running the New York City marathon for the Children's Tumor Foundation! This foundation is one that I have been with for almost five years now, running two half marathons and fundraising close to 10,000 dollars with friends. It is special to me, not only because I have grown with the foundation, but because of my connection to the people affected.
Gabriela Zafiropoulos is a 12 year old girl who was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis when she was an infant. NF is a progressive disease where tumors grow in your nervous system and can cause blindness, deafness, paralysis and even death. Neurofibromatosis affects 1 in 3,000 births, making it more prominent than Huntington’s disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, and Tay Sachs disease combined. Since NF is a progressive disease, its symptoms worsen over time, and growth can accelerate at any time. Research is the key to finding a cure, and the Children’s Tumor Foundation is an organization dedicated to raise funds to find a treatment and cure for Neurofibromatosis.
In 2005 and 2006, my friends and I together with the Zafiropoulos family traveled to Virginia Beach for the Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon and fundraised close to 10,000 dollars for "Research for a cure". The memories I have of Gabriela cheering us on with all of the families and victims affected by this terrible disease will last a lifetime, and have really motivated me to continue to race.
This race will be two challenges for me. The first is that I am running a marathon, and I will have to train very hard to race the 26.4 miles in New York City. But the second challenge is where I need your help. I would like to raise 5,000 dollars ($10 a mile=260 dollars). With every contribution received, I am getting closer and closer to this goal.
I will need a lot of support for this, but I believe together we can meet this goal and someday be a part of the cure. In accordance with the IRS code any donation is 100% tax deductible. You can email me at vinnys42@bu.edu if you have any questions. Help me run to make a difference!
The Children’s Tumor Foundation, NF victims like Gabriela, and I sincerely thank you for your support and generosity.
Sincerely,
Vincent Squillace
P.s. I am proud to announce that I will be running the NYC marathon and half marathon!! That is a total of 39.6 miles! |

Below is a video from the Children’s
Tumor Foundation that demonstrates how your support benefits nearly
2 million people worldwide that are affected by Neurofibromatosis. I
hope you’ll please take a few minutes to watch the video and perhaps
be as motivated as we are to support The Children’s Tumor
