Hello! Thank you for visiting my NF Fundraising Page!
As many of you know, late last summer I lost my left leg below the knee. It’s been a crazy year, but my recovery is going really well and life is starting to return to something resembling normal.
What many of you may not know is that I lost my leg due to a condition known as Pseudoarthrosis of the Tibia. This is a genetic condition and complication of NF1 where the tibia (and sometimes the spine) will break and is unable to heal- even after many surgeries and treatments over the course of a child and young adult’s life. There is no cure. Neurofibromatosis affects approximately 100,000 children and adults in the US. NF causes tumors to grow just about anywhere in the body and can result in physical deformities, brain and spine tumors, learning disabilities, chronic pain, blindness, and other serious medical conditions that make living with NF extremely challenging for the children affected by it.
On October 9th I will be attempting to “walk” a 5k in the ING Marathon in Hartford CT , as a member of the NF Endurance Team. The NF Endurance Team works year round participating in events to raise money and awareness for NF research.
Although this event will be personally challenging – it is not about me. In fact, there is one little girl in particular who has inspired me to commit myself to the CTF’s Endurance Team. Her name is Shaylyn, she lives in West Virginia with her family. She’s just 6 years old. Shaylyn also has NF1 and Psuedoarthrosis of the Tibia. Recently she underwent a Syme's Amputation and is learning to live the rest of her life with a prosthetic. Her courage and determination amaze and humble me. I will be walking for her and the thousands of other children whose lives are dramatically affected by NF.
Won’t you please make a donation to the CTF and support my efforts to raise the much-needed funds that will go towards research and better treatments for children like Shaylyn? It is my goal to raise $3,000 for the CTF. Please make a donation today to help me reach that goal. The event is just two months away!
Also, if you prefer, you can send a check to the Children's Tumor Foundation directly. Just make the check out to:
Children's Tumor Foundation
95 Pine Street, 16th Floor
New York,NY10269-0741
In the Memo part of your check please write:
Susan Keegan CT-5680-10. The memo allows CTF to post the donation on my web page and goes towards keeping track of how close I am to reaching my goal.
I may have lost the battle to keep my leg, but with the CTF and NF Endurance Team, I’m out to win the war against NF – With your help we come another step closer!!!.
