Friends & family-
On Sunday March 25, 2007 I will be running a half marathon in Atlanta Georgia as a member of the NF Marathon Team. My goal is to commit to staying healthy as an individual but also to help raise money for research and an eventual cure for NF.
The reason I am running is far greater than personal growth, in addition to raising funds and awareness for NF, I will be running for my NF hero, my mom, Susan, she is a living miracle.
My mom was diagnosed with NF2 in 1983; Neurofibromatosis encompasses a set of distinct genetic disorders that cause tumors to grow along various types of nerves. NF2 is characterized by multiple tumors on the cranial and spinal nerves, and tumors affecting the auditory nerves. Hearing loss usually occurs in the early twenties & is generally the first symptom.
Since 1983, she has lived miraculously through over 18 brain surgeries; she has fought with an amount of courage that is immeasurable. Her ability to adapt to the various deficiencies has been inspiring to watch over the years. The remarkable efforts of her husband/ advocate have helped to offset the pain and challenges she could not overcome individually. Growing up and observing their commitment to each other has proven to me that love and support is the model for success when facing NF.
The NF community has helped provide comfort to my family over the years by acting as a great resource to learn and communicate with others experiencing similar situations. There are STILL no cures other than tumor removal but NF Research has been drawn to the cutting edges of both molecular biology and genetics. You can visit ctf.org for more information.
I would value your sponsorship as I have set a personal goal to raise $10,000 ($10/mile =$130). Help me raise awareness and funds to help find a cure. Please email me at dlrobin@umich.edu if you have any questions. Donations are tax-deductible. Your support allows me to contribute to the NF team. Help me run to make a difference! Thank you |
