Thank you for visiting my fund-raising page. I hope you’re at the site in order to make a donation to CCFA.
I’m excited about trying to do a half-marathon – 13.1 miles. I think that the person who had the idea of cutting a marathon in half deserves accolades. As Anne, one of the Team Challenge coaches said: “… a half-marathon should not be called a ’half’ of anything! It’s 21 K.”
I’ve never run any longer than 5 K, and that was just a few times in the Susan G. Komen race to raise money for breast cancer research, and in the UWM Panther Prowl for student scholarships. But I believe that by following the Team Challenge training regimen, I will be conditioned enough to last all 13.1 miles on July 18th. In fact, I’m getting used to hearing people say, “A half-marathon is just a 5 K with a ten-mile warm-up.” And as I train for the run, I hope to raise funds for CCFA.
The picture below is from the Sunday training in Lake Park. The one-mile loop includes 95 steps, all of them up. The above photo is from team-training April 24th near Lake Michigan. You can see from the photo that I’m running alone, and you can also see that it’s not because I’m out in front of everybody else. It’s due to my pace being so slow that everyone else is ahead of me. No matter. However long it takes me, and at whatever pace, I’m looking forward to completing the half- … I’m looking forward to completing the 21 K run.
I thank you once again for your support, and I’ll keep you posted on how I do.
Fred
