I'm honored to be a part of Team Challenge. This is an
organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis, which are digestive disorders collectively known as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
Approximately 1.4 million Americans suffer from IBD.
Adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 35 are the most susceptible, although IBD has been detected in children as young as 18months. At this time, there is no cure. Treatment is limited to medications or surgery to remove part or all of the colon when medications are no longer effective. The risk for surgery may be higher if the disease begins in childhood. For more detailed information, please visit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).
Please help me in finding a cure. On July 19th, I will be running a half marathon in honor of a high school student named Brianna Vivian, who was diagnosed with IBD in March of 2008 (Her story can be viewed by clicking on her name above). Funds that I raise with Team Challenge will help CCFA raise awareness and find a cure for this disease. |
