My son Michael, daughter Camille and me at the finish line |

| The race is done, but the need to raise money is not. I was pleased to finish in 2 hours and 15 minutes, well below the 12 minute mile I had anticipated. Thanks for all the support for my first ever running venture.
Original note: As a colon & rectal surgeon, I have cared for hundreds of patients suffering from Crohn's and ulcerative colitis (also known as inflammatory bowel diseases or IBD). I really knew very little about these diseases, however, before my specialized surgical training. Prior to that (even through medical school and residency training), I, too, shared many of the biases that most people do about these diseases and the people that they affect. I have now had the privilege to serve for the last 4 years on the Board of the Tennessee Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) as well as get to know many amazing people who are directly or indirectly affected by IBD. Additionally, my research efforts at Vanderbilt University are focused on improving the diagnosis and thus the treatment of Crohn's and ulcerative colitis.
When we were presented with the opportunity to partake in the Team Challenge, it was a perfect way to show my true commitment to furthering the efforts of the CCFA and finding a cure for IBD while allowing me to reach my personal goal of running a marathon (well, half of one, anyway).
Please give. Any amount will get me closer to my fundraising goal, and all donations are tax deductible.
I sincerely appreciate your willingness to help. |
