Racing for Digestive Health!
Dear Friends and Family, I am about to embark on a fantastic journey and I need your help! I will complete the 13.1-mile run at the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country half marathon on July 20, 2008, to raise funds and awareness for research leading to improved treatment options and a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Crohn's disease is a chronic (ongoing) disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It’s symptoms include chronic diarrhea, acute cramping in the abdomen, joint and eye pain, anemia and fatigue. It is estimated that as many as 1.4 million Americans have IBD; however, many more suffer in silence due to potential embarrassment and alienation. Crohn's disease may occur in people of all ages, but it is primarily a disease of adolescents and young adults, affecting mainly those between 15 and 35. As you may know, I, along with my younger sister Madeline and my uncle Loren all suffer from this disease. Many of you may remember the terrifying health crisis that began with a 106 degree fever in an emergency room in Florida while on vacation with my family a year ago. I underwent countless tests, blood transfusions to counter my severe anemia caused by blood loss, and two major operations that resulted in the loss of my appendix, right ovary and 8 inches combined of my small and large intestine. I was blessed to have your prayers and support during that difficult time. Many of you expressed feeling of helplessness as you wished there was a way you could do something to help. This is your chance. Together, we can make a difference! I have committed to a tough training schedule, and I’ve committed to raise $4,000 in donations to The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. I AM MOTIVATED! I AM COMMITTED!! I WILL DO IT!!! By now I hope you agree with me about the importance of this cause. Please help support me by giving generously. Please donate online here or mail your donation with my name in the memo line to: CCFA- Team Challenge Tennessee 386 Park Avenue South, 17th Floor New York, NY 10016. A minimum of 83 cents per dollar raised by CCFA goes directly to research and patient support, and your contribution is 100% tax deductible. I look forward to contributing to digestive health together! Thank you for your support! With Gratitude, Megan
On my way to the big 13.1 in Napa!
