I am a 22-year-old woman who has seen her fair share of trials and always faced them head on, which is exactly why I am asking for your help. In February, 2008 I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and I have committed myself to run a half marathon on July 20 to raise funds and awareness for this terrible disease and a similar disease called ulcerative colitis.
These diseases are chronic disorders that cause inflammation of the digestive tract. There is no cure for these diseases, and the current treatments themselves have many serious adverse effects. Together, we can raise money to fund research to help find a cure or better treatments for these diseases.
In the information I was given after my diagnosis I learned that about 80% of patients with Crohn's will require surgery. Up to 30% of patients develop osteoporosis. The chance of a patient with Crohn's getting colorectal cancer is greatly increased. To learn more about Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, go to: http://www.ccfa.org
For these reasons I am asking that you please support me by giving generously. I am running on behalf of myself and my two honored teammates Kaarin Slotte and Marilynn Balter, who have Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, respectively. A minimum of 80 cents per dollar raised by CCFA goes directly to research and patient support, and your contribution is tax deductible. I am motivated and committed to doing this. Please send me any form of support you can or wish to!
If you would rather donate off line or send me encouragement, please email me at sherbet@gmail.com to contact me. You will all be in my heart as I cross that finish line! |
