| My great friend Mandi was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in June of 2005. This is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects her entire colon — since her diagnosis she has been in and out of the hospital quite a few times. This disease is a daily struggle for her and it has been inspiring to see how she handles each challenge with grace and gratitude for the good things in her life despite the bad that comes with this disease. I am happy to say that with the help of medication, she is doing very well right now (which is HUGE).
When I heard she wanted to take on the challenge of a half marathon to help raise funds for the wonderful research and patient support that the CCFA offers, I knew I had to be there. We have joined Team Challenge and will take part in the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon on July 20, 2008. As part of this team I have committed to raise at least $3,500 in donations for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). While this disease can be helped with medication, there is yet to be a cure (unless you call removing your colon a "cure"). A minimum of 80 cents per dollar raised goes directly to research and patient support, and all contributions are tax deductible.
Your help and well wishes are greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you! |
