| Multicultural Village is a simulated Village where a a community of youth and adults from very diverse ethnic and social groups can live, learn, grow and experience new ways to address violence and be socially responsible.
It is a small local entity with a large global reach. We are based in Natick Massachusetts but function in places where there is a need to allow groups, communities or people in conflict to have peaceful interaction.
This year, Summer 2008 we are working in Trinidad, West Indies with 24 youth from two ethnic groups with historical animosities. They will do a three week program consisting of:
Week 1: Experiential workshops- Communication, Conflict Resolution, Violence prevention, Being Agents of Change
Week 2: Joint community project with at risk youth in San Jose Costa Rica
Week 3: Dialogues for reconciliation and community building.
Next Year, Summer 2009 will be similar but in week 2 we will be working in Benin, West Africa to build a school for children in Calavi, Benin.
Multicultural Village is a place where youth can discover that their strengths and courage go beyond national, cultural or global patterns and habits. The Village is a place where youth can take a chance to stretch their mind, cross the racial and social divide, learn life skills, create a global impact and have tons of fun. |
