National Multiple Sclerosis Society MSAMS 5/11/13
Making Strides Against Multiple Sclerosis
Join the Movement® by taking part in the 2013 5th 3rd River Bank Run as part of Making Strides Against Multiple Sclerosis (MSAMS). MSAMS is a unique opportunity that enables individuals to reach two common goals: to test their athletic endurance and to help create a world free of MS. Every stride you take during your race will bring us closer to a world free of MS.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision.

An estimated 400,000 Americans live with multiple sclerosis. Every hour of every day someone is newly diagnosed with MS, which remains the most common neurological disease leading to disability in young adults. While most people with MS are diagnosed in the prime of their life, between the ages of 20 and 50, an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 children under the age of 18 also live with MS.

The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS through our 50-state network of chapters. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

The National MS Society has just committed $17.5 million to support 50 new MS research projects as part of its comprehensive strategy to stop MS in its tracks, restore function that has been lost, and end the disease forever. This financial commitment is part of the Society’s nearly $40 million 2011 investment in cutting-edge research projects.

MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn't. This is why we run. Join us now.
