I have been nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year! What an amazing opportunity it is to raise money to help find a cure for a disease that has impacted so many lives. Please allow me a moment to share with you why helping LLS is so important to me.
- June of 2005 -- My dad was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
- September 2007 -- Close friend of 30 years, Scott Nocton, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.
- August 2002 -- Dear friend, Byron Hanson was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
- 1983 -- My father-in law John Coleman won his battle against Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Like many of you, I’ve witnessed first hand the debilitating effects that leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma can have on those who suffer from these blood diseases. Not only are those afflicted suffering, but their family and friends as well.
Knowing someone touched by this disease has given me a target to refocus my energy toward while sparking my desire to help others. Did you know 114,000 Americans will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myelnoma this year? Where you aware 823,000 Americans are currently living with 1 of these diseases? Sadly, now you can see how possible it is to have 1 of these diseases impact your life.
My Dad’s, Scott’s, Byron’s and John’s courage, determination and spirituality were and continue to be inspirational to anyone who has followed their journey. I’ve proudly accepted my nomination as a way to celebrate their remissions and Scott’s continued healing!
