Founded in 1959, the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center has been treating people who suffer from bleeding and blood related disorders for over 45 years. Our Center was one of the first chartered chapters of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), and was also the first free-standing, hemophilia treatment center offering comprehensive care in the United States. We are a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation and are governed by a locally based Board of Directors, including Rochester visionary, Mary Gooley. We care for families with bleeding disorders in the 14-county region around Rochester, NY. Our mission is to improve the lives of people affected by bleeding disorders and iron overload. We strive to fulfill this mission by providing world class treatment, advocacy and research to individuals and families affected by various inherited disorders related to hemostasis (blood clotting) and iron overload. Please visit our website at www.hemocenter.org to learn about each of the disorders we treat, such as Hemophilia ,von Willebrand Disease, Hemochromatosis ,Gaucher Disease, Thrombophilia.
We are staffed by a select team of highly trained doctors, nurses and social workers, working hard to provide each patient with the education and skills they need to effectively manage their condition, lessen their fears and live an active, normal and productive life. Led by 3 world-renowned hematologists, Dr. Peter Kouides, Medical-Research Director, Dr. Prad Phatak, Assoc. Medical Director, and Dr. Ronald Sham, Medical Director, our Center is also engaged in many research studies designed to learn more about each disorder and the efficacy of various treatment options.
The Finger Lakes Triathlon is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Center. All of the proceeds from this event go to support patient programs and services to improve quality of life for our patients and their loved ones. Please choose a fundraiser (below) graciously participating in the "Train for Treatment" program to read about a day in the life of our young patients. We truly appreciate your support! |
