Train for Treatment 2007
"Caring is in our Blood"... Please join us as we "Train for Treatment" to support the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center at the Finger Lakes Triathlon on September 23, 2007
Founded in 1959, the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center has been treating people who suffer from bleeding and blood related disorders for over 45 years. Our Center was one of the first chartered chapters of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), and was also the first free-standing, hemophiia treatment center offering comprehensive care in the United States. We are a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation and are governed by a locally based Board of Directors. Our Center cares for families with bleeding disorders in the 14-county region around Rochester, NY. Our mission is to improve the lives of people affected by bleeding disorders and iron overload. We strive to fulfill this mission by providing world class treatment, advocacy and research to individuals and families affected by various inherited disorders related to hemostasis (blood clotting) and iron overload. Please visit our website at www.hemocenter.org to learn about each of the disorders we treat, such as Hemophilia ,von Willebrand Disease, Hemochromatosis ,Gaucher Disease, Thrombophilia. Choose a fundraiser graciously participating in the "Train for Treatment" program to read about a day in the life of our young patients. We hope to increase patient independence through self-care management and to improve quality of life for our patients and their loved ones. Staffed by a select team of highly trained doctors, nurses and social workers, we work hard to provide each patient with the education and skills they need to effectively manage their condition, lessen their fears and live an active, normal and productive life. Led by 3 world-renowned hematologists, Dr. Peter Kouides, Medical-Research Director, Dr. Prad Phatak, Assoc. Medical Director, and Dr. Ronald Sham, Medical Director, our Center is also engaged in many research studies designed to learn more about each disorder and the efficacy of various treatment options
