Marin Memorial Day Races -- Don Ritchie 5k
UCSF Pancreas Cancer Program
Striking more than thirty four thousand people each year, pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest and most aggressive cancers. Eighty percent of patients die within the first year after diagnosis; only four percent live more than five years.

These sobering statistics are attributable to the disease’s silent symptoms, resulting late diagnosis, and intrinsic resistance to current regimens of chemotherapy and radiation. It is clear that new strategies to prevent, diagnose, and cure pancreas cancer are urgently required.

The UCSF Pancreas Cancer Program, comprised of an integrated team of multi-disciplinary pancreas cancer experts, is committed to this goal. One of the world’s few Pancreas Centers of Excellence, the Program offers state-of-the art diagnostic and treatment techniques, creating a source for hope for pancreas cancer patients in the Bay Area. Its robust research program is translating laboratory discoveries into improved therapeutics, thus also positively impacting pancreas cancer patients world-wide. Dollars raised through the Tamalpa Runners Memorial Day 5k Race, held in memory of beloved Tamalpan Don Ritchie, will fund the UCSF Pancreas Cancer Program’s most promising research projects that are unraveling the causes, detection and treatment of this insidious disease. Donations are 100% tax-deductible.

You do not have to run/walk the Don Ritchie 5k to be a fundraiser -- you may also compete in the Marin 10k or in the Youth Races or simply be a fundraiser.
