|The Charleston Miracle League (“CML”) was founded in 2003 to serve children and adults with special needs in Charleston, SC. The CML is one of 200 miracle leagues in the United States and Puerto Rico providing organized recreation for approximately 80,000 children and young adult players worldwide. Participants in the CML range ages of 4 to adulthood. Miracle Leagues are designed to increase recreational participation among children and adults with mental and physical disabilities in a warm and welcoming environment. Miracle leagues are organized with community volunteers or “buddies” who assist the players with batting and reaching the bases. Miracle league games operate using the following basic rules: (1) all players have a turn to bat each inning, (2) all base runners are safe, (3) every player scores a run before the inning is over, and (4) each team and each player wins! Many local businesses and groups have shown their support for the CML by participating as volunteers at our baseball games. We rely on over 50 volunteers each game day to help our players on the field while adding fun and excitement in the stands. There is no greater thrill for these athletes than hearing the roar of the crowd as they round the bases towards home plate! |
The CML is committed to meeting the recreational needs of all physically and mentally challenged children and adults in the Charleston region by ensuring that they have available and accessible opportunities to play baseball as team members in an organized league. To date, there are over 130 players in our youth league and over 50 players in our adult league. The Charleston Miracle League Baseball Complex is located in West Ashley on Playground Rd.. It was completed between 2003 and 2005 and includes a custom-designed cushioned synthetic turf field, press box, concession stand, and handicap-accessible viewing area. These amenities have facilitated safe and easy participation for the players in the league and their families. The CML completed Phase III construction in 2007, which resulted in a covered picnic pavilion and handicap accessible restroom suites. For the most exciting Saturday in Charleston, just come out to a game – you’re guaranteed to leave with a smile!
