| Colon cancer, medically known as colorectal cancer, occurs in the colon or rectum. Although one of the most preventable forms of cancer, it is still the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, behind only lung cancer.
Apart from our commitment to Colon Cancer Awareness, proceeds from Mercer Island Run Day events are used by the Mercer Island Rotary Club Foundation to support many other charitable causes.
Our fundraising efforts support non-profit organizations operating at the local, regional and international levels, with particular emphasis placed on helping groups that are dedicated to serving the most in need.
Each year, the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Mercer Island provides over $150,000 to grant recipients - a substantial portion of these funds comes from funds raised by volunteering our members' time, and enlisting the support of our local community, in organizing and hosting our annual flagship event, the Mercer Island Rotary Half Marathon. |
