"You can quit, but no one cares and you'll always know" - J. Collins, founder: Ironman
Welcome to my " MAKE CURES HAPPEN IRONMAN CHALLENGE". I am training to race an Ironman, a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run, to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. That is 140.6 miles of racing in 1 day!
I am raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Recently I have witnessed the consequences blood cancers can have with the loss of my mom, and the great progress Sick Kids treatments had to my little buddy Graydon Vintar. I was reminded again the impact of blood cancers on November 18 with a call from Wales and my little 2 year old cousin Myleisha's diagnosis of Leukemia. I'm completing this Ironman in honor of them and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes and I need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - finding a cure! The pain I will endure training 20 to 25 hours a week including10km's of swimming, 350 to 500km's of cycling, and 80 to 100km's of running, is only a pinch of what blood cancer patience face daily. I ask for your support to carry me through this training knowing the greater cause of a cure is on the other end of every training mile.
An Ironman is a race of 140.6 miles. Imagine what a donation of $1 per racing mile would contribute to stars like little Myleisha, Graydon or mothers like Valerie Spencer. Any and all donations are welcome because every contribution is a piece towards a cure. Please visit this site often for updates and new photos throughout my journey to the finish line. I thank you and I am humbled by your support and generosity. Gratefully, Rhys
