Using my passion for running to support their search for a cure.
I've joined Team Challenge and I need your help! I will complete the 13.1-mile Las Vegas Rock N Roll Half Marathon on December 5, 2010, to raise funds and awareness for research leading to improved treatment options and a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). It is estimated that as many as 1.4 million Americans have IBD; however, many more suffer in silence due to potential embarrassment and alienation. Crohn's disease may occur in people of all ages, but it is primarily a disease of adolescents and young adults, affecting mainly those between 15 and 35. However, Crohn's disease can also occur in people who are 70 or older and in young children as well. In fact, 10 percent of those affected -- or an estimated 100,000 -- are youngsters under the age of 18. On average, people are diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in their mid-30s, although the disease can occur at any age. I will be running in honor of two special people who have been diagnosed with this disease. Kyle is an active 12 year old boy who is still learning to cope with his disease and continue to play sports and lead a normal life. My Aunt Barb has suffered the effects of this disease for more than half of her life, which at times, has meant hospitalization when a "flare up" takes ahold of her. Watching loved one's battle the symptoms of IBD is frustrating and heart-wrenching.

Together, we can make a difference! As a member of Team Challenge, I have a coach, a training program, and teammates to support me. I have committed to a training schedule in hopes of reaching a personal record, and I’ve promised to raise $3,600 in donations to The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. This is my second year with Team Challenge, and my third year to run the Las Vegas Half-Marathon. As I am nearing the end of my fundraising campaign, I will continue with what has been an excellent training season so far, and I will make every effort to meet or exceed my fundraising goal to support this wonderful cause.

By now I hope you agree with me about the importance of this cause. Please help support me by giving generously. Thank you!

Because one time was not enough!
