| Welcome friends, family, and perhaps even some people I have yet to meet. This is my fundraising page, where my progress can be tracked. I have committed to raising $3,600 for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, in an effort to shed some light on these painful and often times embarrassing diseases. I cannot do this without you, so please donate and help me reach my goal. 80 cents of every donation up to my goal of $3600 goes directly to research. After that, 100% of your donations go to research. Together, not only can we find a cure, but you can help me complete my first half-marathon!
The Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Half-Marathon attracted 35,000 runners last year. It begins and ends on the famous Las Vegas strip. I cannot wait for this incredible experience!

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Crohn's disease is a chronic (ongoing) disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Although it can involve any area of the GI tract, it most commonly affects the small intestine and/or colon. Ulcerative colitis on the other hand, affects only the colon. There are no areas of normal intestine between the areas of diseased intestine. In contrast, such so-called "skip" areas may occur in Crohn's disease. Ulcerative colitis affects only the innermost lining of the colon, whereas Crohn's disease can affect the entire thickness of the bowel wall.
It is estimated that as many as 1.4 million Americans have IBD; however, many more suffer in silence due to potential embarrassment and alienation. I did not know anyone suffering from Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis before joining Team Challenge, but after hearing some of their stories, I am even more dedicated to completing my mission. If you know somebody suffering from Crohn's or ulcerative colitis, I not only ask for your help and support financially, but with spreading the word about my cause. Even if you don't have much to donate, every little bit helps more than you know! |
