Hi, Everyone!
Thanks for swinging by to check this out. I hope you’ll help me support a cause that’s near to me: the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America [CCFA] (http://www.ccfa.org/). Studies have shown that about 20 to 25 percent of patients may have a close relative with either Crohn's or ulcerative colitis. This disease runs in my family and a number of my friends are affected by Crohn’s disease, and a few years back, I had a scare that I may have Colitis. Trust me – the tests aren’t pretty, and I’ve seen how these diseases affect the lives of those who live with it every day. It ended up that I thankfully do not, but many other people are not as lucky. Being as research is still in its infancy (research began around the 1970’s), the CCFA is helping to find a cure for this disease, providing over 1100 research grants and funding $16 million worth of research in 2007.
I’m running the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll ½ Marathon (http://las-vegas.competitor.com/) on December 5, 2010 to help raise awareness of the CCFA. Over the next 16 weeks, I’ll be working my non-runner body into accepting and increasing endurance so I can run 13.1 miles. The farthest I ran before this was a 5k in a Santa outfit! I’ll be posting periodic updates on Twitter (@Sara_Mooney) and on my blog (http://saramooney.com) on how training is progressing.
My goal is to raise $2,000 or more to help fund research to help my family, friends, and others affected by Crohn’s and Colitis. No amount is too small to donate! Give up one gourmet meal on the Strip for $75+, a round of golf for $50+, one night of happy hour for $20, the weekly Pizza Hut trip for $10, or one cup of Starbuck’s coffee this week to donate $5. If you do not feel comfortable donating online, please email me at Sara [DOT] Mooney [AT] gmail [DOT] com and I will send you the information for checks and where to mail them.
Thank you for helping to run down a cure for Crohn’s and Colitis! |
