12th Annual Lucero Memorial 5K Run/Walk
Today, 1 in every 8 individuals living in the U.S. is Hispanic or Latino, and by 2050, 25% of the population will be of Hispanic descent. Despite this looming population explosion, only about 1% of the nation’s psychologists identify themselves as Latinos. The Lucero Latino Mental Health Program (LMHP) at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) trains over 30 graduate students of psychology each year to provide culturally competent care to the Latino population. The program was named to honor Dr. Cynthia Lucero, a much-loved, community-oriented MSPP graduate from Ecuador who died in the spring of 2002 after collapsing while running the Boston Marathon. The Lucero Run raises much-needed funds for scholarships and to send our Lucero students to Costa Rica and Ecuador to volunteer their services while they learn. All donations are tax-deductible!
