Friends of Heroes (formerly Friends of Allie), is a Canadian/USA Light The Night® Walk, Friends & Family Team, walking in memory of eight-month-old Allie of Allen, TX, who passed away from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in September 2004. Allie touched more lives in her brief life than many ever will.

Since 2005, this team has raised over $789,000 to help find a cure for leukemia and other blood cancers, in Allie's loving memory. Our goal for 2007, is to raise enough money to bring the cummulative total to $1,000,000.

"My only thought is that maybe through Allie, people are seeing the need for awareness about these types of diseases," states Allie's mother Jenny. "Funding for research is critical. That is why events like Light The Night are so important. Not only do they give us a chance to honor our loved ones, they also help raise money for cures.".

The Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening walk to raise awareness and funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

I'm participating in the Walk in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes and we need your support to help accelerate cures and hope for patients and their families. Although research is responsible for increasing survival rates for these diseases, the battle is far from over. Did you know that:

-An estimated 67,000 Canadians are currently living with blood cancers.

-Every 5 minutes someone in this country is diagnosed with a blood cancer!

-Every 10 minutes, someone loses the fight!

-More than 12,000 new cases are expected each year.

-Leukemia is the leading cause of disease-related death among children under age 15.

-The Myeloma survival rate is only 32%
