In Memory of Ott -The World's Best Grampa - June 15, 1919 - June 21, 2005

Welcome to my Light The Night Walk home page. This site was created July 22, 2005.

Today is:

The Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening walk to raise awareness and funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

My name is Sharon Carman and I'm participating in the Walk this year in Memory of my Grandfather, Ott Camplain. With answered prayers, and the superb help of Dr. Gregory Friess @ The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (www.texascancercare.com), Ott fought his battle well for 8.5 years. However, on June 21, 2005 the cancer finally won the war. Throughout his battle he was faced with Lung, Testicular and Lymphoma. Ott died at home surrounded by the majority of our family. He was 86.

I am so fortunate to have had the priviledge of having such an incredible man as my Grampa. I'm so thankful for the 40 years I had with him, and the lessons he taught me in life.

In Honor of him, I'm asking that you join me on Oct. 16th in Sundance Square to walk in Ott's memory, or make a donation (whether $1 or $1,000) to help in this fight for a cure. My hope is to have an entire group of friends and family walking together that night to raise a minimum of $5,000.

Ott Camplain was a remarkable man and I miss him very much! During his life he touched the lives of many people, each life made better for knowing him.

Although cancer finally took Ott's life, there are so many people who are still fighting the cancer war. Like Grampa, these people are the real heroes and we need your support to help accelerate cures and hope for patients and their families. Although research is responsible for increasing survival rates for these diseases, the battle is far from over. Did you know that:

  • Every five minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every nine minutes, someone dies.
  • Leukemia is the leading cause of disease-related death among children under age 15.
  • Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers.
  • The myeloma survival rate is only 30 percent.
Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk. By doing so, we’ll both be helping save lives. I hope you'll join my team and walk with me on Oct. 16th, as well as, visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. If you live in another city or state, I hope you'll participate in a Walk near you.

Thanks, in advance, for your support! Your donation is very much appreciated and will not go without notice!
