TEAM GUMP - WALKING FOR A CURE!

Thanks for visiting my Light The Night TEAM GUMP donation site. My husband, Gerry "Gump" Brown, lost his battle to ALL (a form of leukemia) in April, 2007, and our family and friends are making it our mission to keep his spirit alive!

Gerry's main concern when he was originally diagnosed in 2002, was to help others in the future. He was very vocal about the fact that he was given a second chance because someone else donated and gave their time for funding and research.

During Gerry's remission, a dear family member, Britney Atkins, was diagnosed with lymphoma. Britney suffered through the chemo treatments, and earned her strips as a cancer survivor. Your donation will help keep Britney going strong as she continues to fight the battle everyday.

You will see on our TEAM GUMP homepage that Britney's brother, Cory, started TEAM GUMP, out of the pain in his heart. He has watched first had how cancer can effect a family, and also what the L&LS can do for each patient.

Gerry worked as a farmer by trade, but was a master of all things. He is one of the few people I knew that could solve a Reubic's Cube, and he could fix anything! Besides his work ethic, Gerry was very active in the Laurel Fire Department as a volunteer serving as Firefighter, Asst. Chief Engineer, Ambulance Lt. At the time of his relapse in 2007, he was President of the LFD. One of his biggest accomplishments was the day he was released from his Dr's care to fight fires and wear an airpack again. He carried the RX stating such in his wallet showing that he was "FREE". You could not stop him, he was bound and determined to win.

Gerry instilled in our son, Dale, that it is VERY important to give back for good deeds. We are doing all we can to keep his spirit ALIVE through this campaign. Gerry touched many lives and has a huge "fan" base from around the WORLD! Gerry was just one soldier in a very large army, please help others battle this war against such a terrible enemy!

Also, make sure you come out and support our team on Saturday night, October 13th in Rehoboth Beach, DE. We will not be hard to miss:@)

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

The Society funds lifesaving cancer research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and many other types of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants that have prolonged and enhanced the lives of patients. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue have already begun to provide drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

But more research is critically needed:

  • Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every ten minutes, someone dies.
  • Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer
  • More than 20,000 Americans died from lymphoma in 2006
  • The survival rate for myeloma is just 33 per cent

Please make a donation to support my Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and again, thanks for your support!
