Douglass College 2005

On May 31, 2005 our world was turned up side down when our two year old son was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Our Story: My husband Michael and I married in Sept of 2000 and bought our first home in South Plainfield N.J. On July 2,2003 we were blessed with the birth of our son, Patrick. He is a loving, happy, innocent little boy who loves his family, friends and Sesame Street. He was born healthy and has never had any health problems until now. It came about suddenly. Patrick had a low-grade fever , some bruises and a rash on his neck, which we later learned was called petechiae. We brought him to the ER on Memorial Day. After looking at his blood, the doctor called my husband and I to a more private area of the emergency room and asked us to sit down. He told us that there was a good chance it was leukemia but a bone marrow test scheduled for the next morning would confirm it. He was right… my baby has cancer. The good news is, thanks to all of the research that has taken place in the past 20 years, it is curable. My son is one of the lucky ones; he has a 90% chance. That sounds good, but not good enough for me. Think about it the other way around…I hate to say it, but the reality is that he has a one in ten chance of not being cured. I am asking you to sponsor my team “Kisses for Patrick” in the Light the Night walk taking place in New Brunswick on Saturday September 24th. Light The Night is an evening walk and fundraiser, held each fall in communities across the country. It’s a celebration of lives touched by cancer – and a remembrance of lives lost. The money raised will go toward finding life saving cures and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Please help cure my son and all of the others suffering from this life threatening disease. Thank you. Please visit us at www.caringbridge.org\visit\patrickcorsello for updates on Patrick's progress
