Your support means a lot…to me, Matt, my family & all those with lymphoma or leukemia
Thanks for visiting my Light The Night Walk homepage. Light The Night is the nation’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.
Matt, on behalf of all of us, says "Thanks" for your generous donations. We hope you'll join us at the walk and always remember that bald is beautiful!
My family, friends, and I are walking for my brother, Matt, who has been diagnosed with two rare diseases: EBV-HLH and T-gamma cell lymphoma. Though Matt's odds for contracting these diseases were extremely rare, his odds of returning to health through a bone marrow transplant are high thanks to the good work of the smarty-pants doctors at USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and the City of Hope, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving cancer research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and many other types of cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, that have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving the quality of life.
But more research is critically needed:
- Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
- Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer.
- Nearly 20,000 Americans died from lymphoma in 2007.
- The survival rate for myeloma is just 34 percent.
Please make a donation to support my participation on the Jack's Mannequin team for the Orange County Light The Night Walk and help save lives. (I am walking on the Jack's Mannequin team because it is one of Matt's favorite bands, and the lead singer, Andrew McMahon, is not only a leukemia survivor, but also a really great guy who is trying to raise $100,000 to support a research grant through LLS. So far, weTeam Jack's Mannequin is about 1/3 of the way there...) Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support!
