Help Carry the Light of Hope

Joshua & Janet - 1 month after diagnosis (8/20/2006)

On July 19, 2006, my brother Joshua was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. He was hospitalized for 3 weeks and now at home recovering. He will have 1-1 1/2 years of treatments including chemotherapy and medication. During this challenging month, my family, Joshua, and I have really felt the power of prayer and grateful for the support from many of you. Recently, Joshua was accepted to Whitney High School for 7th grade. We are all very proud of him! However, due to his health, he will enter the 7th grade with a home school teacher provided by Whitney High School. When he is strong enough, he hopes to have the full middle-school experience at Whitney High School.

On September 16, 2006, I am walking in honor of Joshua at Anaheim Stadium at Light the Night Walk hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I welcome you to come join me and walk in honor of him or help make a contribution.

The Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide walk to raise awareness and funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

We need your support to help accelerate cures and give hope to patients and their families. Although research is responsible for increasing survival rates for these diseases, the battle is far from over. Did you know that:

• Every five minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer: Every ten minutes, someone loses the fight.
• Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children.
• Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers.
• The myeloma survival rate is only 32 percent.
