In Victoria's Memory... and for Tonian's Life

I am participating in Light the Night this year in both memory and celebration. In April of this year, the world lost one of its kindest and brightest souls to leukemia, my dear friend Victoria. I will be walking with Victoria's extended family and friends in her sweet memory. Many of those teams walking beside us will remember Victoria's powerful speech at the event last year, in which she inspired so many to give from their hearts and to have the courage to ask others to do the same.

I also walk in celebration of the life of my beautiful friend Tonian, who survived leukemia and continues to share her own story today in support of others.

I am proud to walk alongside the extraordinary family that I came to know so well throughout Victoria's illness and passing. We are working together and staying connected to keep Victoria's extraordinary legacy of LOVE alive.

About the Society

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving cancer research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and many other types of cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, that have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving the quality of life.

But more research is critically needed:

• Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
• Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer.
• Nearly 20,000 Americans died from lymphoma in 2007.
• The survival rate for myeloma is just 34 percent.
