I am Surviving

My Name is Victoria Wallach and I am Surviving Leukemia.I was diagnosed with AML on April 30th. This came as such a shock as I was a healthy yoga teacher. Rarely did I get colds or flues, I ate well, took good care of myself. But one day I began to notice that "something" was not right. I was exhausted all the time despite getting sleep and eating right. I got strange colds that held on and then led to flues So when I went to get my blood checked they knew some thing was wrong. When I finally went for a Bone Marrow Biopsy and it was confirmed. I felt I stepped into an Alien Universe, that I didn't anticipate. But we never can anticipate for these things can we. So there I was April 30th 2006 in what seemed like a blink of an eye, hooked up to a machine and chemo running thru my veins. And not having a clue what was going on. It was in that moment, in that haze I decided I am in this and I am aligning myself with these treatments and I am going to fight with my heart and my spirit and my community and prayers and Love for my Life!!!!! I am grateful to be here, at this point on June 30 2007 with 8 months remission thanks to a wonderful donor and a Stem Cell transplant and lots of loving care from my nurses, doctors and friends and family and prayers. There are still so many people fighting. There is so much research to be done. How can we increase survival rates, how can we have better the treatments, how can we prevent this disease? .75 cents of every dollar Leukemia,lymphoma Society collects goes towards research and other programs to help patients and their families. This is Vital!!! During this journey I have learned that people do really want to help. It is built into our hearts to help one another. And you can help simply by donating and anything helps, 5.00....5,0000, ask people at work, ask friends, family if they are interested in giving, and in fulfilling their hearts desire to help. It is such a simple thing that goes such a long way. Thank you for your consideration and your efforts and simply reading my story. I am still fighting. I have many friends that are still fighting for remission using trial treatment. I have a dear friend Brenda Donato that lost her fight recently. She inspires me every day to inspire you to help. She was doing it right up till she passed, reminding us how important it is to give to this cause.
