We are walking in memory of Erica & Jim and in support of Elizabeth & Pam.
Thanks for visiting my Light The Night Walk homepage. Light The Night is the nation’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.
I have been working with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for the past 7 years, with my job at Burlington Coat Factory. Last year, out of 400 stores we ended up #3 in the chain for the amount of Light The Night Balloons sold at our cash registers. We raised over $22,000. It has been very rewarding.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving cancer research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and many other types of cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, that have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving the quality of life.
This past year has been one with mixed emotions. My friends little girl Elizabeth and Pam my former co-workers Mom are now in remission with the care they have received. It unfortunately doesn't always bring positive news. My cousin Zack lost his new wife Erica this past year shortly after giving birth to their beautiful baby girl Addie and our long time family friend Debo, lost her husband Jim to the disease.
More research is critically needed:
- Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
- Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer.
- Nearly 20,000 Americans died from lymphoma in 2007.
- The survival rate for myeloma is just 34 percent.
Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support!
Thank you so much! - David (Gayle -Sister)
