Putting a face on childhood cancer

It’s that time of year again! My son Ryan and I are really looking forward to another year of participation in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night walk. The twist for this year is that I'll be 7 months pregnant doing the walk! The walk will be held on Saturday October 18th.

Ryan and I participate in the walk in loving memory of Allie Scott. Allie was a beautiful 8 month old baby girl who bravely fought Leukemia and passed away in September of 2004. In honor of her brave fight and brilliant smile our team, Friends of Heroes, was born. Friends of Heroes is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s largest national friends and family team that Ryan and I are both so very proud to be a part of!

I’m incredibly proud to inform you that since our inception nearly 5 years ago, team Friends of Heroes has raised an astounding $960,000 in the fight against pediatric cancers. I’m also proud to tell you that my son and I have been active participants in the walk all 5 years…Ryan is not even 5 years old yet and this year’s walk marks his 5th year of participation! When he was a baby, he participated in the walk because I dressed him in a team t-shirt and pushed him in a stroller. Now, nearly 5 years old, he participates with me in the walk because he wants to. His excitement to help others is both rewarding and contagious. What an honor to be able to say my son has supported this cause since he was born!
