This cause has become extremely important to me because in 2003 my mom was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) - a form of leukemia characterized by the increased and unregulated growth of predominantly myeloid cells in the bone marrow and the accumulation of these cells in the blood. On Thursday, October 16th, 2008 I'll be walking in honor of my mom. I'm raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and I'm asking you to help by making a contribution. Each donation helps accelerate cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and provides a better quality of life for individuals like my mom and families who are on the front lines of the battle against these diseases. The day I found out my mom had cancer was one of the scariest days of my life. Today, my mom is a survivor in every sense of the word - in remission, thankfully, because of the brilliant work cancer researchers are conducting every day to develop cures. I'm so grateful to them and to everyone who continues to support cancer research. Every day with my mom is never taken for granted and I know there are thousands of family members and friends who can relate to how I feel.

• • A donation of $25 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.
• • A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
• • A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
• • A donation of $1,000 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.
