L.E.S.L.I.E.....Love Everyday so Life is Everlasting
Welcome to my Light The Night Walk home page. The Light The Night Walk is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening walk to raise awareness and funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Mom and me at my wedding, August 31, 2003.
In September of 2004, my Mother, Leslie, lost her battle with Leukemia only six short weeks after diagnosis. She will forever be missed by all those who knew her.
Two weeks after her passing, our family and friends joined together to walk in our first Light the Night Walk as Leslie's Team. Over 40 people walked with our team on that very emotional evening. The number of people who supported us with donations was overwhelming. In the short period of time we had to pull our team and fundraising efforts together, Leslie's Team raised over $10,000!! We were honored as the top finishing team in Hartford, and the second highest in Connecticut.
For those who knew my Mom, you know what a caring and giving person she was, and how she touched the lives of so many. We were so proud to be able to honor her memory and spirit by participaing in this walk. Through the team's efforts, my Mom will continue to help others in need.
This year, we will again honor my Mother by participating in the Light the NIght Walk in Hartford on September 22, 2005. Please support our team by joining us in the walk or making a donation. Our goal this year is to beat last year's total, and finish not only top in Hartford, but highest in Connecticut as well! By making a contribution to this event, you can help people who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes and we need your support to help accelerate cures and hope for patients and their families. Although research is responsible for increasing survival rates for these diseases, the battle is far from over. Did you know that:
Together, we can help find a cure.
- Every five minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every nine minutes, someone dies.
- Leukemia is the leading cause of disease-related death among children under age 15.
- Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers.
- The myeloma survival rate is only 30 percent.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
For more information on these blood cancers please click the "Visit Light the Night" link to the left. To learn how you can save someone's life by becoming a bone marrow donor, please visit www.marrow.org. You will be surprised to learn how easy it is!
