New targeted therapies- including Lilly drugs- that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving the quality of life. However, while there are individuals with incredible outcomes, some patients still lose this battle. · Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies. · Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer. · Nearly 20,000 Americans died from lymphoma in 2007. · The survival rate for myeloma is just 34 percent. What can you do to help? In order to contribute personally to this fight, I’ve joined the Light the Night campaign. Please donate to my team or become a walker. You can also visit the pages of other Lilly employees who are coordinating teams. On August 23rd, Lilly Light the Night Team 8, in conjunction with Union Jack Pub in Speedway, is sponsoring a silent auction and dinner buffet. A portion of the receipts from the buffet and 100% of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). My friends at Union Jack are sending out requests to area businesses for donation items. I would like to ask that if any of you have any items, event tickets, etc. that you could donate, please contact me as soon as possible. I can arrange to get the items to the auction and provide you with a receipt. If you can't make a donation, consider coming out on the 23rd to support the LLS and for good food and fun. Billy Fingers (formerly of Little Ditty's) has agreed to provide entertainment for the evening. I'll provide more details later.
