Your support means a lot to me, my family and to thousands of others.
Thanks for visiting my Light The Night Walk homepage. Light The Night is the nation’s night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost. In October my family and I will be walking with hundreds of others around the new Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin. I will carry a white balloon to designate being a proud survivor and my family will carry red balloons to designate being supporters.
John and Snickers at the 2007 Light the Night Walk
I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Small Lymphocytic Lymphoma in March of 2005. My dad, Donald Wagner, died from this same Leukemia November 2003. In the years since diagnosis, I have met many hundreds of others with these blood cancers, not only on line, but in person. I have already gone through 8 rounds of chemotherapy and will face more and a possible bone marrow transplant. We need to find a cure before many more lives are lost to this disease. Many folks I came to know are no longer with us. You can help fund research to find a cure.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving cancer research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and many other types of cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, that have helped patients live better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that are improving the quality of life.
But more research is critically needed:
- Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
- Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer.
- Nearly 20,000 Americans died from lymphoma in 2007.
- The survival rate for myeloma is just 34 percent.
Please make a donation to support my participation in the Light The Night Walk and help save lives. You have been generous in the past helping me and my family team members raise about $8,000 over the last three years. Be sure to check my Web site frequently to see my progress, and thanks for your support and your prayers!
