| Long Beach Rescue Mission (LBRM) is a faith-based non profit organization founded in 1972. As an independent homeless shelter, LBRM has given thousands of homeless and needy individuals in the greater Long Beach area comfort, care, and the opportunity for spiritual renewal. Open to men, women and children of all faiths, the Mission provides food, shelter and compassion to those in need. The Mission’s Samaritan House can accommodate up to 120 men; women and children stay in Lydia House, which has 50 beds.
Mission’s Programs
1. Emergency Services program provides food, showers, a bed and clean clothing for homeless men and women—no questions asked—for seven days. Once these basic needs have been met, many are able to see the possibility of a future away from the streets.
2. Case Management program gives those who have decided to turn their lives around 90 days of emotional, spiritual and practical support. Once assessed, clients have a plan tailored-made to their needs and then are connected with local agencies and resources. They continue to meet weekly with their case manager to review their progress in following the plan.
3. For men and women who commit to working on deeper personal issues, the New Life program aims to transform the “whole person” through education, spiritual guidance, and individual counseling. Participants are required to live at the Mission for one year, during which they attend vocational classes, group sessions, 12-step meetings, and participate in work therapy. The program is designed to help the homeless overcome the challenges and addictions that have kept them enslaved, damaged their self-esteem, and kept them from becoming self-sufficient. The New Life program graduates more than half of those who enter it. |
