Latinitas "Media Darlings" Annual Campaign 2010
Empowering Young Latinas Using Media and Technology
In an informal poll in Latinitas' programs we determined 93 percent of the Hispanic girls and teens enrolled in our after school clubs did NOT have a computer at home and of the 7 percent who did, internet was inconsistent. This is decades into the digital age! This gap leaves young Latinas ill-prepared for the demand for technology savvy in academic and professional realms.

In addition to the technology gap, young Latinas face a deluge of stereotypical images of themselves in media. When a Latina dons the silver or TV screen - she is often over-sexualized, made to be the criminal or the maid. And, despite Latinos place as the country's biggest minority - they are still scarce in important media decision-making positions such as editors, directors and producers.

On the forefront of connecting Hispanic girls and teens with various forums of media expression and production, while providing access to technology, Latinitas is developing the next generation of Hispanic reporters, editors, producers, cinematographers, web architects and more.

We exist because of the support of people like you. In many ways, you determine the path young Latinas will take by helping Latinitas, an organization that is making its entire focus Hispanic girls and teens - the most at risk for teen pregnancy, school drop out, drug abuse and suicide.

Please join us in our "Media Darlings" Annual Campaign for 2010. Below you can donate according to various levels named for outstanding Latinas in media. Join us in supporting the future of American media!
