|On June 26th I will complete the Kona half marathon to raise funds for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (www.CCFA.org). Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic, painful and often debilitating digestive disorders for which there is no cure. CCFA’s mission is to find a cure for these diseases and improve the quality of life of the 1.5 million American adults and children who suffer everyday. I have committed to raising $6,000 for the CCFA which will provide on-going support for extensive research, educational programs, and patient support services and I need your help to reach that goal!
Although I don’t have any personal connections to Crohn’s or Colitis, it was on January 19, 2011, when I solidified my decision to become a Team Challenge participant. I had the honor and privilege of listening to a motivational speech delivered by fellow BU alumnus and former Boston University Terrier Hockey player Travis Roy. For those of you who don’t know who Travis is, during the 1995 BU Hockey season 11 seconds into his very first shift as a freshman hockey player he crashed into the boards head first and has since then been paralyzed with limited use of his upper extremities.
Although Travis’s physical challenges are much different to Crohn’s and Colitis, I think the mental challenge with any chronic condition are much the same. His message and story spoke volumes about the determination and will that anyone and everyone has deep in their core, given even the most impossible circumstances, to overcome life’s greatest challenges. I am amazed everyday at the determination of people, who are given physical challenges and chronic diseases like Crohn’s and Colitis, to overcome these hard obstacles day in and day out to live happy and hopeful lives. It was during Travis’s speech that I decided to become 100% committed to challenge myself, change a life, and help find a cure!
Together, we can make a difference! As a Team Challenge participant, I have a coach, a training program and teammates to support me. I AM MOTIVATED! I AM COMMITTED!! I WILL DO IT!!!
But I can’t do it alone – I need your help! Please consider donating to help me reach my personal goal and feel free to forward this website to your friends and family. It is incredible how many people these vicious diseases effect.
