| Dear family and friends, I have recently taken on a new challenge. I plan to complete the Chicago Rock and Roll Half Marathon on August 2nd, 2009. I am running this 13.1 mile race to raise $600 for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are known together as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is estimated that 1.4 million Americans have IBD, however many more suffer in silence. It most often affects people between the ages of 15 and 40. Both my sister, and one of my close friends are afflicted with Crohn’s Disease. I am very aware of the extent to which the disease impacts their daily lives and how suddenly they can become sick . They are both on immunosuppressant drugs to manage their Crohn’s. Related to this treatment, my sister became very ill last year with spinal meningitis. She recovered but continues to struggle with health issues related to Crohn’s Disease. I am proud to raise money to run The Rock and Roll Half Marathon in honor of my sister. In doing so, I will invariably contribute to medical and scientific research to help minimize the impact of Crohn’s Disease while giving myself the opportunity to tackle and achieve the personal goal of finishing a half marathon. I hope my effort makes a difference in fighting a disease that affects so many. Please consider supporting me in this half marathon. Whatever donation you can make is greatly appreciated. You may write a check payable to CCFA (mail to me), pay by cash or you can make a secure online credit card donation to my web page. Thanks so much for your support! |
