| Welcome to my fundraising page!
This year I am taking on my greatest challenge to date: The Chicago Marathon on October 11, 2009!
My mother Mary Hannah Herold lost her long battle with cancer on December 28, 2008. She fought the disease with endless strength and overwhelming grace right until the very end. She was so positive and selfless throughout her entire ordeal that many people didn't even realize that she was sick. Always with a loving smile on her face and an open ear she gave everything she had to those around her and lived for her family and friends. I am proud to have called her my mother, my confidant and my very best friend. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her and miss her beyond all measure.
Grief is a funny thing and it makes you do stuff that you never would have imagined possible. In researching ways to honor my Mom I came across the Susan G. Komen Marathon site. A lifelong equestrienne and animal lover she always said that "if humans were meant to run they would have been born with four legs." An excellent point indeed. I am sure I will think of it often as I build up the mileage in and around Washington, DC throughout my training. I know I will definitely be thinking it through all the 26.2 miles that I will run in gorgeous downtown Chicago on race day. I will also be thinking of her beautiful face and imagining her shaking her head at yet another of my crazy athletic endeavors. A marathon?!? Not bad for the girl from Jersey with the hole in her heart!
In addition to following my progress here I hope that you will check out my training blog as well:
